Storyline crashes when trigger conditions added
Good afternoon team. Regardless of content, Storyline reliably crashes when I attempt to add conditions to a trigger.
Clicking the dropdown in conditions will show the options of variables, objects, window. If I SELECT any of those buttons to see a list, storyline immediately throws an error, and crashes the course. This happens on empty single slide courses, as well as ones with content.
I have attempted uninstalling and reinstalling Storyline, and uninstalling and reinstalling EVERYTHING, including Articulate 360.
Any ideas? Thanks everyone.
Hello Everyone! ✨
I'm happy to share that we have released a new update for Storyline 360 (Build 3.74.30180.0)
In this update, we have implemented a fix for:
- Storyline 360 crashing when adding conditions to triggers or publishing to Word.
As a first step, I recommend updating Storyline 360 to the latest version. Here's how:
If you have any questions, please let us know in this thread or privately in a support case.
Have a great day!

Currently, my team is working on windows updates to see if that fixes things. As a TEMPORARY fix, you can turn off the new trigger wizard in the options, and I can make conditional triggers using the old interface.

Clint, thank you for providing an update on your work around. That fixed the issue with the conditions! I'm going to relay this info to my team.
Ren, thank you for following up, I'll continue to work with Ronaziel to see if this can get fixed.

Join the legion of users who are having the exact same problem, but apparently only on their computers, because Articulate insists it is incapable of reproducing the problem on their end:

https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/object-conditions
BTW, uninstalling/reinstalling is not a "solution," partly because Articulate does a significantly less-than-adequate job of removing all of its entries polluting the system registry, and partly because it is an admission that they really don't have a firm grip on the root cause.

Well...technically there haven't actually been any promises of the issue being fixed in a future upgrade, because Articulate's line has consistently been "we don't see the problem on our end, so there's nothing for us to fix." The mouthpieces here allegedly pass the issue to the Support "Engineers"...and that's the last anyone hears of it. 2 years and counting 🤬

Thanks for the good news, Luciana! 👏
Appreciate the Articulate team that worked on this fix.

I've been getting these crashes too - when adding conditions to triggers. I will see if switching to the old interface for triggers fixes the problem, as suggested by Clint.
Thanks, Aaron. Be sure to let us know the results of your testing. It looks like a few folks were behind on Windows updates and that allowed the software to work correctly as well.
You are welcome to work directly with our support team here if needed.
Hi Allan,
I'm glad to hear that the crashing stopped, and appreciate you circling back!
We want to understand the connection between the new trigger panel and crash, where our Support Engineers can jump in at any time. If this happens again, please let us know:

I have a fresh install of Storyline on a fresh install of Windows 10 and it's constantly crashing when editing triggers. I have a test project that is only 1 slide, nothing complicated.
Very disappointing.
Hi Jonathan!
I'm sorry for the trouble! I want our Support Engineers to work with you directly to determine what is getting in the way. Our Support Engineers are available 24/7 in a support case. I'd recommend uploading your .story file to their team so they can start by testing your project. You'll hear from them as soon as their testing is complete.

I am also having this issue, along with others on my team, and literally every time we even *touch* the condition box in the trigger wizard it crashes Storyline. It's been a year since this issue was reported, what is the fix?

Miranda, try using your arrow keys to select your condition type in the trigger panel. It worked for me when nothing else would.

Hi! This has been an ongoing issue for me. My Storyline shuts down completely when setting up a trigger with an object condition. Jason's suggestion is the only solution I've seen here.

As I replied in another thread over a year ago, Articulate Tech Support's first suggested "solution," was to disable anti-virus and change my user profile to local admin. As I elaborated on in this post, the era of everyone being a local admin on their computers is over. Internal IT departments find having fewer users (including those within IT) having administrative privileges means less vectors for cyber-attacks. Suggesting either of these as a possible solution demonstrates a profound ignorance of today's enterprise environments.
Articulate Tech Support's second suggested "solution" was to use the keyboard arrow keys to get to the "Object" option. While that does, for the most part, work, it is entirely kludgy and ignores the underlying issues. I pay for software which works, not software which requires jumping through multiple hoops to get it to sorta-work. Software in the latter column is called "beta," aka "not ready for public sale." As an alpha and beta tester for several of the big names before Articulate was around, I know beta when I see it.

Awesome advice Joseph, using the arrow key totally worked! Thank you for the work-around. :-)

Joe, wasn't in great back in the days of your avatar having the insider knowledge of Jamil on the AWARE ListServ!

Yeah, having direct access to Macromedia's engineering team (including Mr. Brew himself) was awesome. They listened, actually responded, and fixed issues, not sit on them for years while offering empty platitudes.
