Issues with Action Fine Tuning

I have been using Storyline 360 for a few weeks now, and have not been having any issues using Action Fine Tuning on individual slides to refine the bits of video included. Except in the last week, when I try to make changes, they don't seem to stick.

When I open up the action fine tuning function on a particular slide, the frame selection has changed to 00 for the start and end frame, and when I try to move the frame selectors and OK the changes, they don't stick. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, the program has been updated recently and nothing seems to be working. Even duplicating a different slide to adjust doesn't remove the issue.

Help please!

  • Hi Paris,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. Since you mentioned that the behavior was caused by a recent Storyline 360 update, have you tried downgrading to a previous version to see if this helps?

Here are some additional troubleshooting steps that you can try:

    • Test the behavior on a new recording to see if it is something that is specific to a certain set of screen recordings, or if it can be consistently replicated across any project file.
    • Do a repair of Storyline 360

If the issue persists, reach out to our support team here so we can take a closer look at what's happening!

  • I am having this same issue with two storyline files I've recently created using View Mode and Try Mode. I've never had the issue before. I have noticed the correct Start and End Frame positions appear if I turn off Show Animation, but of course, I'm not able to adjust them. I can't say it's tied to an update and I also can't revert back to another version. Has there been any further discovery on this issue?

      Hello Kassie,

Can I ask if you copied and pasted your slides, or duplicated them in any form before using the 'Action Fine tuning' option?

We are currently monitoring a known bug that causes the action fine-tuning start and end frame markers to reset to zero values for duplicated slides. I'd like to verify if you are affected by the bug so we can add you to the report.

  • Hi Kassie,

Thanks for the confirmation. I've added this community post to the bug report that I mentioned so we can notify you as soon as a fix is released. Thanks for raising this issue with us. Here's a quick look at how we handle bugs for your reference.

Confirming I've also experienced this issue with copy/pasted slides.

    1. If I insert the recording again from SLIDES menu > Record Screen > Insert recording, the frames are no longer showing as 00 to 00.
    2. Dragging and dropping the same slides in Story view (instead of copy/pasting slides) does not result in the 00 to 00 issue.

      Thank you Brooke!

SL update didn't work for me but your suggestion of drag-and-dropping works.

  • Hi Brooke,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this one as well. We'll let everyone here know as soon as a fix is released for this issue!

  • Hi, everyone!

Good news! We just released an update for Storyline 360, Update 69, which has important fixes and new features.

One of the fixes we've included is:

Copying and pasting step-by-step slides could reset the starting and ending frames to zero seconds.

Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to enjoy this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360.

Please let us know if you need additional help!

      Hi Eric,

Unfortunately updating SL360 hasn't resolved the issue for me. I copied and pasted several slides from one scene to another within the same SL file and all those slides are stuck at the first frame rate.

I have this issue too, and a fix can probably help for the future, but is there a way to recover a slide that has this problem??

      Hello Jurgen,

Sorry to hear about your project file. If your slide has already encountered the issue, there is no way to revert the changes without a working backup.

We recommend updating to the latest version of Storyline 360 so you won't run into this behavior again. If you have any additional questions about your file, feel free to reach out to our support team by opening a case here

I just had this issue too, and I was able to reinsert all of the slides again, then just grab the one I needed to update to drag in with the rest of the slides I had already edited.

  • I have been having the issue being discussed in this thread where the screen recording when fine tuned caused it to revert to 00. I was trying to remove frames from the end of the video, but what happened was it removing the wrong section and reverting the beginning frame to 00.  I just updated to the latest version based on the recommendations in this chat. When I retested it just now when I use the action fine tune feature, once saved, the whole video is missing from the timeline, I tested it twice and same outcome, which is even worse than the original issue.  I'm on v3.86.32.  Help please!

      Hi Eva,

Good call on opening a support case. I can see that my colleague Fannie is already working with you to troubleshoot the behavior. You're in good hands, and we'll continue troubleshooting the problem there!
