Closed Captions when published to MP4
First off, I like Storyline. After years slogging away on the deeply flawed and absurdly glitchy Captivate, it was a breath of fresh air when I started using it a few years ago.
So apologies in advance if this sounds like a rant but I’ve wasted 2 days this week producing lengthy subtitled content only to realise that when published to MP4 the captions themselves flicker and blink uncontrollably, making the content worthless and in need of redevelopment in Premier Pro - which I avoided for time saving sake in the first place.
Only subsequent search of the forums told me that this is an issue of some 2 years now.
I think it would be beneficial if Articulate signposted this at the beginning of the process somehow - “you will not be able export captions to MP4”. Not having that option is fine - but ostensibly having that option but then letting it fall over at the end of the development process probably took my blood pressure to 300/250 today.
But I like what you do in general and you have a great, low barrier to entry tool and I appreciate how difficult building software is.

Hi, Gareth,
That sounds extremely frustrating. I hope Articulate takes your concern (and the concern of everyone producing this sort of content) and does something about it.
In the meantime, instead of redeveloping in Premier Pro, have you considered putting your caption in standard rectangles that appear and disappear as captions would? Those would probably be fine when published to MP4.
In any case, take some slow, deep breaths. None of what we do is worth high blood pressure.
:-)
Hello Gareth,
I wanted to update this discussion to share that we no longer see this issue where closed captions are blinking in a published video when using the latest version of Storyline 360, Build 3.61.27106.0.
