Screen reader - closing layer problem

Hi. We have courses with popups build as layers. The problem we encounter is related to the behavior of NVDA reader. Everything works great when u vist the slide, open the popup (layer) - base layer is not clickable when the popup is visible. But when the user closes the popup the reader starts to read text on the slide again (on the base layer). Sometimes from the beginning and sometimes if there are more than one popup (layer) on the slide and more than one paragraph on the base layer reads fisrt or with closing the second popup the second paragraph. Focus order is ok on the slide. Can anyone help with this problem?

  • Hello MarcinKorzen376 ,

    Happy to help!

We are currently tracking a bug where if one layer opens another and then the original layer is closed, the focus will return to the start of the main layer instead of the button that opened the first layer when using a screen reader to navigate through a course. It sounds like the behavior you're experiencing might be related, and I'll be glad to confirm this for you.

Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or privately by opening a support case for testing? We'll delete it when we're done!

My team is having a similar problem on a knowledge check slide where the screen reader wants to read the entire slide when it should just be reading the feedback layers, even though the elements on the base layer are out of focus. As a workaround, we have rearranged the focus order so that the elements on the Feedback layer come before the base layer. We've found that NVDA will read the base layer first when the slide begins, so that seems to work so far. Any other suggested workarounds would be much appreciated šŸ˜Š

JoseTansengco- What is the best way to keep up with the status of a fix for this issue?

MarcinKorzen376- just curious which screen reader you're using?
