Prevent downloading my videos

Hello,

we are launching our eLearning website in the coming few weeks. Our website uses Learndash LMS. We created our courses using storyline 360. Then we added course videos from a Vimeo where we have all of our videos. We did added the videos from Vimeo to Storyline360 using a "fixed embed link". We have added all security measures to our Vimeo account. Yet, anyone can download the videos from our web site using a third party APP that can download videos using Chrome, firefox or internet explorer.

What we are seeking is to prevent anyone (even registered users who are enrolled in the courses ) to download videos.

Is there a plugin for WordPress, or Learndash LMS or, storyline or website plugin!

Or is there a code that can be added to Storyline so it can prevent downloading!

I will highly appreciate anyone who can help!

  • Hello Awfa,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know that you're embedding a video via web object and concerned about 3rd party tools allowing video download.

Many bulk media downloaders, screen recording software, and even cell phone recordings make it hard to entirely protect content on the internet.

Is the web object playing in a new tab or within the slide?

I look forward to hearing from others in the community about protecting their courses.

Thank you for your reply! What we have is , our videos from Vimeo embeded in storyline. When someone choose to start a course, it will open a new tab. In the new tab, we will have a screen showing  " START COURSE" . Then when click on start course, it will ask for a name, then show courses intro, objectives, then a video will start as a module 1 video.
We can share screen shots if needed.
      Regards,
      Awfa

  • In order for registered, enrolled users (or anyone else), to be able to view your video, they must download it to their computer so their browser can show it. It is pretty difficult to reconstruct the whole video from the way the browser downloads it, but my point is that it must be downloaded to be viewed. so in reality there is no practical way to prevent its download. As Leslie pointed out, there are many apps out there that specialize in downloading videos from the internet.

You can spend a lot of resources, and may still not be able to prevent it being downloaded. Your best option is to make its main value the learning experience that you add with Storyline. That way, the effort and cost of downloading the video in an unauthorized manner isn't worth it.

People who register and pay for the courses, they will be able to watch it within the website itself. We don't want them to download it and share it with others. Our investment in our videos we made will be l lost! There must be a way from Storyline to make programming a code  not to allow anybody to download it.

  • When a person watches it on the website, that is a form of downloading. If you prevent any downloading, the registered users can't watch it - that is just the nature of the way the internet works. Additionally, there are lots of screen recording apps out there that allow a registered watcher to record a video while they are watching it.  It is very difficult to completely prevent a determi9ned person from downloading it. Your best bet is to control access to the course, and the website.
