Course length/total time

As Ashley mentioned above, it includes the timeline of each individual slide and does not include layers.

It helps to give a rough estimate, but if you've included layers, web objects, or lots of learner interactions those will impact your overall time.

I was wondering if there is a way to leverage this duration value available in Storyline for the purpose of reporting on any LMS?

I am using Storyline-3 and the LMS my company uses is Moodle (3.6v).

I have 2 follow-up questions:

1. Is there a way to get the duration to display in Moodle once I upload the SCORM?
2. I am also looking for a good way to have a 'fixed' completion time value pulled into my Moodle course completion reports. We all have looked at reports where the actual SCORM completion time is logged at say 30 minutes for a 5-minute learning, maybe because the learner decided to take a coffee break after deploying the SCORM. So if the duration input before publishing the SCORM can be the default completion time when we run reports, then it will help circumvent the scenario I described above.

Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you would like to see in your LMS reporting.

Storyline communicates the following question details to LMSs for SCORM and AICC courses.

• id: Storyline sends a series of data to identify the Scene#, the QuestionDraw# (if applicable), and the Slide# in that particular scene or question draw.
• type: This is the type of question (True/False, Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, etc).
• student_response: This is how the learner answered the question.
• correct_response: This is the correct answer for the question.
• result: This designates whether the learner answered the question correctly or not.
• weighting: Storyline doesn't use this item. It'll always be 1.
• latency: This is how long it took the learner to answer the question.
• objective: Storyline doesn't use this item. It'll always be 0.

Any reporting of duration or actual time spent in the course would be within your LMS. Hopefully, your fellow Moodle users will pop in to share any tips and ideas with you.

Thanks for reaching out! To help clarify, you can only see this estimate within the Storyline file while editing. You won't be able to tell the length of a course by looking at the published output.

Is there anyway to determine the length of a RISE course similar to how Storyline calculates the course length estimate??

Do you have any method of predicting which lightboxes any given learner will use, or for how long? Without that ability, no suggested duration is usable or accurate.

I publish to video, look at the duration and add some time for interactivity and for navigation. That way you get the narration time from the layers.
