VAK Assessment in Storyline

Hello E-Learning Community,

I got a recent request to upload to the cloud a VAK assessment.  I am thinking on using Storyline, but I am not very good with Triggers and conditions and this assessment is scored differently.  Each question has 3 answers, V A K.  Storyline needs to tally the total number of questions person answered with a “V” answer, how many “A” answers they gave, and how many “K” answers they selected.  The end result will be that the learner is either Visual, Auditory, or Kinesthetic.

If anyone have this figured out and wants to share, I would appreciate.

Thanks, Anna

  • Hi Anna,

You can track how the user is answering by using variables. I’d use a number variable for each of the three answer types, and triggers to add to the variable’s value based off of which answer was selected. At the end, you could have a layer for each of three types and a trigger to call each layer if the variable is greater than the other two variables.

I’ve attached a Storyline 360 file that shows what I’m thinking. For my questions, I used Survey Question slides. Each slide shows the variable references. I’d remove those before publishing, but they are handy for seeing how things are working.

    Hope this helps!

  • Like Ginger says, it's easy enough to keep track of the answers. Displaying the results may be more of a challenge. Here's an idea of one method of presenting them.

  • Hello, thank you both for your help and great examples.  I can definitely make it happen, now.

Hello Walt, I am just wondering if you would be able to help me with the TEAM assessment or maybe you know who can.  I appreciate your prompt response so I know what to do.

      Thank you, Anna

    Hello Walt,

I was very successful with VAK assessment, but then, I attempted to convert the TEAM assessment with 4 answers per question and I have to admit, had to give up.  The result slide looks too complicated for me.  If you don't mind looking at the CBT and provide me with solutions so I get the right percentages for each of four personalities of #1Thinker, #2Energizer, #3Acheiver, and #4Mediator.

I appreciate your time and assistance.

    Thank you, Anna

Also, quick question.  I am assuming that the text on the trigger cannot be formatted, correct?

  • Anna,

Sorry, I got distracted. Try the attached.

A couple of things I noticed.

There is a problem with this trigger:

When it comes to a jump trigger, it jumps immediately, and that prevents execution of any triggers that come after the jump. I went in and put all those jumps at the end of the trigger list, so I could test it.

Also, On Question 1, I changed the jump trigger to prevent advancing if the question isn't answered. If you like it, paste it on all the questions, or if not, you can just delete it.

I changed the reporting variable, putting them in text boxes, so they can be formatted.
