Using the Player's Seekbar to Scrub Through Videos - Video Freezes

I have a course that blends elements of animation, video, text, and icons. I want to use the player's seekbar to keep the screen clean of video controls. However, it's causing some issues. The video responds perfectly to a couple of clicks along the seekbar. It tracks perfectly. However, after a few more clicks along the seekbar, the video pauses and will not resume. The timeline continues to progress, but the video is frozen. I'm happy to recreate a sanitized version of the .story file to share that doesn't break non-disclosure agreements, but in the meantime, has anyone dealt with this before?

  • Hi, Robbie.

    Thank you for reaching out!

Let me ask you a few questions to narrow down the issue:

    • Is this behavior happening in Preview or after Publishing (and if it's after publishing, which format are you selecting?)
    • Can you reproduce this with a different video, or is it only happening to a specific one?
    • Are you working from a local hard drive? We don't recommend working with files on a network drive as it can cause erratic behavior.

If this is only happening with a specific video/project, can you share it through a support case so we can investigate?

  • Hi Maria,

    Thanks for the reply!

    • I find it happening in Review360.
    • It happens to several videos, but I'm afraid I haven't kept a log on each video yet to see if some are more prone to this behavior and if there are any that never have this issue at all. I think that needs to be my next step when I can find the time.
    • I always work directly from my internal hard drive.
    • I'm unable to share the .story file or even the videos because of non-disclosure agreements. :(
  • Hi, Robbie.

    Thank you for clarifying!

Something you can also try is a third-party tool, HandBrake, to re-encode the video.

I completely understand the confidentiality issue. Our Support team can sign an NDA, and they’ll delete the file once they are done troubleshooting. If that works for you and your team, just let us know!

  • We're recording some new video clips now, so let me see how those play out and whether or not the problem persists. That's great to know that you all offer to sign NDAs to be able to work on the material. I'll run it by the team, and if push comes to shove, I'll recommend that solution to them. Thanks for the help!
