Storyline 3: Accessible text: formatting issues on mobile

Using the Accessible Text feature on mobile, the formatting of text boxes behaves unpredictably. I'm trying to create nice-looking, readable text for users, whether they turn on the Accessible Text or not.

Has anyone figured out what settings to use in the Text Formatting (paragraph-level or elsewhere) to take the guesswork out of this process? I feel like I must be missing something very basic here. When I try to do simple formatting (bullets, indents, anything other than single spacing), the Accessible Text on mobile goes haywire. Overlapping of lines, for example.

Also, is there some formula for figuring out how much extra space to allow in a text box to avoid scrollbars on mobile when Accessible Text is on? It doesn't seem consistent across the different text containers (shapes, text boxes, etc.).

Any pro tips? This is Storyline 3, mobile-only.

  • Hi Liz,

Sorry to hear that you ran into formatting issues. I'd like to gather more information to help clarify your experience:

    • Which mobile device are you testing your courses on? Please include the device and OS version so we can test the issue on compatible hardware.
    • Include a screenshot of the issue showing how your text appears on a mobile device
    • Additionally, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can use your exact project file for testing?

    Looking forward to your response!

I'm still learning my way around this too, but I've just managed to remove the scroll bar from accessible text by adding a carriage return. I've no idea why that works since logically I thought it would be more likely to add a scroll not take it away, but maybe try that and see if it works?

I'm also getting issues with text overlapping too, especially for answers in graded questions. The only thing I've been able to do is shorten the answer to under a line.

  • Hi Kate,

Thanks for sharing how you approached the formatting behavior of Accessible Text in Storyline 3!

Regarding the overlapping text, feel free to open a support case if you'd like us to take a look at your project file. We'll delete it when we're done troubleshooting!
