Publish to Video - initial frame display
Has something changed in updates to SL360 in recent years? I published many projects to video in 2020, all worked OK.
Now when I publish any SL project, the published MP4 content is OK when it gets started, but always has a black frame or frames at the beginning. I can edit this using a separate app but it is a pain when I have a lot of small videos to do. I'm putting them into Rise, so quick trimming within the program is not possible.

Storyline Support, please help! I have the same issue John noted above two years ago. My team is creating several videos for a Rise course. The videos built in Camtasia, pulled in as mp4s, show the starting screen of the video in rise before the play button is clicked. But the Storyline videos don't behave this way. It starts as a black screen. I need it to show the first frame of my video, like the other videos so they all behave the same. Which is also why I am bringing the storyline videos in as mp4s instead of as storyline blocks. We need all videos to look/feel the same for the learner but need to use different tools for building them based on the content we're showcasing. So how do I fix this? It doesn't appear John's question from two years ago ever had a solid answer.

HI there,
I recently saw a work around for this problem, that allowed me to use an SL block in Rise, rather than making an MP4.
In the 'Player' dialogue in SL, there is a tick box to use a slide from the SL file as the opening image, instead of black. This makes it display in Rise. However, if you have many things in the SL slide, set to appear/animate along the timeline, this pic in Rise shows all of the elements at once!
Therefore, an additional thing. It's a bit of messing about but if you do it once and then use it as a template, it's good: Add an additional slide prior to the first slide, duplicate the opening graphics onto it. Set its timeline to total 1 second and a trigger to jump to next slide as timeline ends. Set another to pause the timeline at 0.5 sec. Place an arrow or triangle of your choice as a 'play' control. Set a trigger for it to resume the timeline.
This works perfectly for me.

in html5 videoplayer there are poster frames for this - unfortunately this is probably not integrated in Rise

Thanks for this Jurgen. I got this to work.
But whether it is a black frame at the start, or a white frame at the start, I actually want the first frame of the video, to be the opening SL360 slide. So there is something rather than nothing when I place the video in Rise, before the user clicks to play.
I'm sure SL360 used to do this?

it depends on the player mode
modern player - dark mode (default) -> black with 1 ... 3 white dots
modern player - light mode -> white with 1 ... 3 grey dots
classic player -> first frame of the mp4: white without any dots
