Layers set to 'Resume saved state' are not working properly
Layers that are set to 'Resume saved state' are not working properly - on revisit they are playing as if they have been set to 'Reset to the initial state'.
I've tested this on a few builds.
The issue is present on:
- June 18, 2024 (Build 3.89.32618.0)
- June 6, 2024 (Build 3.88.32574.0)
The issue isn't present in:
- April 30, 2024 (Build 3.87.32265.0)
The May 28 build (Build 3.88.32474.0) was not available to test
Hello everyone, 🎉
I have some great news to share! We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 91, we’ve included important fixes and new features. One of the bugs we’ve fixed:
- When revisiting slides, object states, layers, animations, and audio started over, even if they were set to resume saved states
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You’ll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you need additional help.

To Articulate: It would be helpful to be able to see a listing of known bugs for Storyline. Particularly those introduced on and after the formal release of the 64 bit version.
Hi Conor,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I can confirm that a bug was identified in Update 88 that caused layers to display incorrectly when a slide is revisited. The workaround is the one that you've already identified, which is to downgrade to Update 87 or earlier. We apologize for this inconvenience, and we'll let you know as soon as a fix is released!

I have the same issue!

Our team is also having this issue - would definitely be beneficial/save time to have a 'known issues' page available. I had to search 'resume saved state' to see if there were recent reports of an issue and luckily found this thread. I am advising our team to rollback as well, and keep an eye out for issues identified as 'fixed' in subsequent builds. Looking forward to a new patch to get us back up to date with the saved state functionality restored.
Hi everyone,
I have some great news to share!
We just released an update for Storyline 360. In Build 3.90.32850.0, we’ve included important fixes and new features. One of the bugs we’ve fixed is:
- Layer content could display incorrectly

Hi Kelly,
I upgraded to Build 3.90.32850.0 but am still having issues where, when revisiting a slide layer, it is resetting from the initial state despite the "Revisits" option being set to "resume saved state." I have this set for both the base layer and slide layer. To further test, I downgraded back to Build 3.87.32574.0 per Connor and Jose's suggestion and the slide layers now resume from saved state so it appears the issue is still prevalent in Build 3.90.32850.0. Thank you! - ConorHutchin662Community Member
Hi Kelly,
As Katy reports the issue has not been fixed.Since build 88 the 'Resume saved state' for layers has not been functioning.
Since build 88 whenever a user returns to a slide which contains layers set to 'Resume saved state' the layer in question does not resume in a saved state - instead plays from the start – as if the layer has been set to ‘Resume to initial state’.
I've provided Articulate support with a clear example of the issue.
Having layers resume at the saved state is a critical function to most if not all of our courses. At the moment the only option we have is to use build 87 – which means not being able to utilise any other fixes since build 87.
I have let Articulate support know that issue has not been fixed. If possible please escalate this issue as I'm sure it affects many of your users - many of whom may not have realised that they have published and realeased courses that do not function as they have intended.

I'm experiencing the opposite issue. I have layers that I absolutely want to have start over on revisit, and even though I've selected "Reset to Initial State", they are opening up in the closing state.
Hi OwenHolt,
Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with the states within your course. I'd like to learn a few more details.
- Could you share a bit more about what is included in your layers? It sounds like you have ensured your Slide Properties are set to Reset to initial state, which is right on track!
- Are you experiencing this behavior in a published output or when previewing your course?
We'd be happy to take a closer look at your file within this thread or privately to investigate further. Feel free to upload your .story when you have the chance.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Kelly,
I just wanted to follow-up per Conor's reply to see if this issue has been escalated up the chain and if a possible fix was coming soon? Thank you.
Hi Conor and Katy,
Thanks for reaching out about this and apologies for any confusion!
I see Connor connected with my teammate in a support case for clarify so I'll share that information here.We have identified two issues after Update 87:
- Objects with animation on slide layers resetting to their initial state when revisited
- Layers set to Resume Saved State restart upon revisit
The recent Storyline 360 version, Update 90, fixes the issue with objects with animation on slide layers resetting to their initial state when revisited. However, the issue where layers set to Resume Saved State restart upon revisit is still an issue with the latest version of Storyline 360. I've linked this conversation so we'll keep you updated as we have news!
