Import PowerPoint

Is anyone else not able to import from PowerPoint? I cannot even import the practice slides from articulate it always fails.

  • Hi Zahra,

Thanks for those clues. I'm happy to investigate this with you!

Quick ThoughtStoryline 360 works with PowerPoint 2010-2019 (32-bit and 64-bit) and Office 365 (desktop apps only), but it isn't compatible with:

      • Office 365 web apps
      • Office 365 mobile apps
      • Click-to-run versions of Office 2010

Is your version of PowerPoint installed on your local computer? If that checks out, are you comfortable with sharing the PowerPoint file for testing? Use this upload link to share it privately.

We'll run through the import process and let you know what we find!

  • I had the same issue when I installed a new version of Office on my computer. I did all the updates and still the same issue. What fixed the problem was uninstalling all the old versions of office off the computer, rebooting and now everything is great.

      Hi Natalie,

Thank you for sharing that solution with the community! I am sure this will help others that run into a similar snag.

    Hi, Alyssa and Heroes!

I've had this problem intermittently, and finally was able to narrow it down to this: If I have too many applications open (especially if they are Office apps), import will fail regardless of how big or complex my PPT file is. Without changing anything and without restarting Articulate 360, but shutting down a few open apps (this time it was Excel and Word), import starts working.

So in my case the problem appears to be about available working memory.

(FYI I have the latest version of Articulate 360 and Office 365 - both updated yesterday.)

Could you add this as a potential solution in your article about this problem - if all else fails, close other apps?

    Thanks!
    Jane

None of it has worked for me. I need to speak to somebody live. How do I do that?

      Hi Greg!

Sorry to hear you're having issues importing PowerPoint content into Storyline!

I see that you've opened a support case that's been received by our senior support engineers. You're in excellent hands working one-on-one with them and they should be getting in touch with you shortly!

We can continue troubleshooting through your case to keep all information in one spot.

  • Hi All, I'm jumping on the 'not working for me either' bandwagon. I have a support ticket in with enterprise support but haven't heard back in a while. I have tried all of the remedies thrown out - reinstall office 365, run as admin, I only use the desktop apps, etc. but still unable to import any PowerPoint file. If I or Articulate Support finds a remedy, I will come back and post it here.

Edit #1 - The link on this page to install the latest service packs for PowerPoint is out of date. Currently it links to https://fe2.update.microsoft.com/ which leads to a 404 page.

Edit #2 - I was able to get the Import function to work again. I had to set the Storyline.exe file to 'Run as Administrator' even though the PowerPoint didn't have enhanced security. I completely reinstalled Microsoft 365. You should add that last part to this support article - https://access.articulate.com/support/article/Articulate-Storyline-360-Failed-to-Import-PowerPoint-Presentation

  • Hi Jeremy,

Nice call opening a support case! I see that you're working with our colleague Chester. You are in great hands!

We'll continue the conversation over in your case!

Have a wonderful start to your day.
