How to lock a user out of a dial

Is there anyway to use SL's dial, but not grant the user access to it? The dial's step position is linked to another variable, which is controlled by a drag and drop interaction. Think put an object in the bucket, the meter moves toward full.

I want to use the dial as a non interactive object to indicate progress, rather than creating 20 states of a position indicator.

Thanks for helping with what's probably a basic question.

  • Cover the dial with an invisible shape - a shape with a fill, no outline, and a transparency of > 95. The shape will intercept any mouse action, so the learner won't be able to click on it.

  • Thanks! As I was walking to the corner store on Saturday evening, I looked at the shop windows and it hit me as well. Put a piece of glass over it!

  • Ok. Interesting note on this. I made a 100% transparent square and the user could still move the dial. Though about it for a bit and tried a 99% transparent square and the user could not move the dial. Juuuuust a little nuance there to be aware of.
