How do I set a slide as the default question slide in my template?
Hello,
I am updating/rebuilding a template built by someone else that does not function correctly. I am running into an issue with the question slides. I have created a few question slide masters, using the question title and question choice placeholders.
However, the when I go to insert a question, it puts it on a different master slide - one that doesn't have the question placeholders. How do I set the question slide as the default question slide so that it will be inserted whenever a question slide is created?
I have created a lot of templates and never had this issue before.
Thank you!
Carrie Ann
This worked! I did have the word question in the layout name, but it wasn't the first word. I had Short Question, Long Question, etc. Thank you so much!

I'm a big proponent of giving objects, layers, and variables meaningful names. However, as SamHill pointed out in his solution, Storyline looks for a layout with the exact name of "Question" when it adds a new question slide.
FYI: The built-in question functionality also requires some specific names. For example, the feedback layers must be "Correct" and "Incorrect" and "Try Again" (if you allow multiple attempts). If there's a layer called "Review," Storyline will automatically show that during a quiz review.
One more related caveat: The Title text box and standard text box that appear on a Question layout should be kept at the top of the timeline, because Storyline uses those for the question and responses.

That's good to hear and you are welcome. Could you please mark this post as resolved, just so that others know that this issue is resolved. It may help others in the future.

Hi CarrieDesnoy475 you just need to ensure that the template you wish to use that branches of your TEMPLATE MASTER is called "Question". This template should then be picked up when inserting a new question slide.
I also want to confirm you are aware you can apply the layout you need to a slide by right clicking the slide in the Scenes panel. You can then just duplicate your question slides.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have already tried deleting the master slide that it is defaulting too. It just inserts a different non question layout.
I also did create this template mostly from scratch, only importing a few layouts. It was very glitchy to begin with. At least I have solved all of the other issues!

One approach you might consider is to remove the default master that is appearing when you insert a question. The downside to this solution is that you may affect other slides in the project.
You may also consider building a completely new template from scratch, instead of updating the old one. Sometimes that's much easier than trying to reverse engineer someone's work which could have been the product of who knows how much coffee, energy bars, and whatnot... ☕
