Hotspot issue - software course
Hello.
I've created a software course by recording the screen and inputting it as try mode. I have a start page with a button that leads to the first slide in the try out scene, however when I press the button the first try out page registers that as if the learner was clicking on the page (outside the hotspot) and I get the "try again" layer instead of the timeline starting as normal.
How can I get the transition her to work normally without it being registered as a click outside the hotspot?
Did that all make sense?
Hi Linn!
It sounds like you needed some help getting your slides to transition properly. I'd be happy to help!
Would be willing to share your project file either here in the discussion or privately through a support case? It would be helpful to see how you have your slides set up, and narrow down the root cause of the issue quicker!

Hey Steven.
I've copied the two first slides to a new project and attached it underneath. Kept all the setting etc same as in the original story, and it has the same issue. Hi Linn,
Thanks so much for sharing your file with us. I believe I have a solution for you.
I took a look at the triggers panel, and I changed the order so the trigger:
Play video when user clicks
comes before
Show layer Try again when user clicks Hotspot 1
When I previewed the course, I was able to see that base slide BO start prior to that Try Again layer.
Attached you'll find a modified version of your .story file.
I hope this is helpful! Let us know if you have any other questions!

Hey.
Thanks for making me another test.
However, the trigger should be "when the users clicks OUTSIDE hotspot 1", not when actually clicking it. I can't seem to find a way to change the order for that trigger, no matter what i do the trigger with "clicks outside" jumps on top of the video trigger.
Hi Linn,
You can try doing this:
- Create a T/F variable that will change to true after 0.1s has elapsed in your timeline.
- Adjust the 'Show Layer - Try again' trigger in your slide so that it will only fire when the T/F variable is set to true.
This will prevent the Try Again layer from automatically opening once the slide timeline starts. I've attached an edited version of your project file so you can see how applying the steps above changes the behavior of your slide.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Hello,
I understand that you have created a software course with recorded screen input and implemented a try mode. However, when you press the button on the start page to transition to the first slide in the try-out scene, it registers as a click outside the hotspot, triggering the "try again" layer instead of starting the timeline as expected.
To address this issue, you can try the following steps:
-
Check the button's properties: Ensure that the button on the start page is correctly set up with the appropriate properties. Make sure that the button is configured to trigger the transition to the first slide in the try-out scene and that it doesn't have any additional triggers or actions that might conflict with its intended functionality.
-
Adjust hotspot settings: Review the hotspot settings on the first try-out page. Ensure that the hotspot is accurately positioned and covers the intended clickable area. Double-check that the hotspot's properties are correctly configured to trigger the timeline start instead of displaying the "try again" layer.
-
Test interactions and layers: Test the interactions and layers in your Software course to identify any potential conflicts or misconfigurations. Check if there are any overlapping elements or conflicting triggers that might interfere with the expected behavior.
If the issue persists after reviewing these steps, it might be helpful to provide more specific information about the software or e-learning authoring tool you are using. This would allow for more targeted troubleshooting and assistance.
I hope these suggestions help. Let me know if you have any further questions or need additional clarification.
