Corrupt or Invalid files
I am 3/4 way through building a course in Storyline 2 and as I was saving it, my computer crashed. Now when I try opening the 76MB file, I get one of the following error messages:
There are no back ups and our IT dept are unable to recover earlier versions.
Am I doomed to starting again or does anyone have any advice/suggestions?
I'm crossing all fingers and toes!!
Thanks!

I found a suggestion on someone else's post which worked - thank goodness!
Hi Stella!
I'm not sure what post you found, but glad that you were able to get yourself sorted :)
We like to share the following:
There may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer:%appdata%\Articulate\Storyline2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline. Also, be sure to always create, edit, and publish projects on your local hard drive. Working from a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources. I had this same situation and it worked... SAVED MY LIFE...ok saved me a ton of time to do a rebuild. Fortunately, I always build them in PowerPoint as a storyboard, but still.... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Woo hoo!! Glad that this was able to help you out Diane.
Time saved is the most valuable for sure :)

I am running into a similar issue. I cannot find the .story source file or the .tmp file using the instructions above. But I do have the published for LMS files and zip folder. Is there a way to recover the .story file from theses?

this should totally be possible ... to download the file from review!

Hi Matthew and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
The project file is not stored in the published output, so you would not be able to get your .story file from these files.
Did you check the location where you normally save your files or do you have a backup system?

I am having the same issue today - both error messages. I just realized that the file I'm working in is on a network drive - I thought I had it saved locally. Anyway, I tried looking in the AppData / Local folder and there isn't one for Storyline. I looked under Articulate - no folder. I can restore to a version from yesterday, which helps me not have to create the entire project over, but wondering if there is another way to get the file?
Hi Rebecca and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Since you mention that you're working off of a network drive, your temp files may be located there as well.
Perhaps just a scan of all files with your file name to see if you can identify it.
The project file is not a part of the data that gets published to Review. Think of it as publishing to an LMS, the published output cannot produce a project file.
