Change Menu from Restrict to Free After the Learner Completing the Course
In Storyline, I have the Menu set as ‘Restricted’ to ensure that the Learner will not skip slides/modules. However, after completing the course, I would like the Menu ‘Free’ if a Learner wishes to revisit the course at a later stage. For example, to only go a slide/module and not go through the whole course.
Can this be done with JS etc., or a setting in the Player that I am missing?
Hi Debbie,
Thanks for reaching out!
I'm happy to help you out with the menu navigation. By restricting the menu, the learners will be able to view the current slide and any slide they previously viewed, but they can't jump ahead or skip over the slides. Once they complete the course, the learner will be able to revisit any slide they previously visited.
Additionally, if you set the resume option to Always resume, the learner will be able to pick up where they left off and have free navigation through the slides they previously visited. Alternatively, you can set the course to Prompt to resume, so the learner will be asked if they want to pick up where they left off.
If you'd like further assistance with your file, you can upload it here or share it privately in a support case. We'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.
I hope this helps!

If the Learner opened the course - say in 6 months' time - would the restricted menu remain unlocked?
This is what is being asked from Stakeholders of my work.
Hi Debbie,
Thanks for reaching out!
In order to better understand your question, I wanted to double-check the learner setup:
- Would the learner still have access to the course via the same LMS?
- Would they be using the same computer/device to access the course?
If that is the case, their status would be retained within the course if they are not viewing it within an LMS. This would work only if they haven't deleted browser history or cookies during that time.
I’d recommend reaching out to your LMS provider so they can best assist you with your specific LMS setup. You will want to confirm how long they retain suspend_data within the LMS. If nothing is cleared from the LMS, the learner should be able to pick right back up where they left off. Here is an excellent article on LMS functionality that explains resume behavior in more detail. If you end up updating the course for any reason, this will reset the learner's progress.
