Remove unused Styles

Whilst the Styles have improved development, I have some big frustrations when using them.

  1. You cannot tell if a style is being used or not, and therefore it is not easy to remove unused styles.
  2. You cannot apply a style at word level, only at paragraph level. Therefore if a word needs a style, you need to create a paragraph with the single word, apply the style, and copy it back into the paragraph it appears in.
  3. Importing a slide from another project bring every style from the entire project across.
  4. When deleting a lot of styles (one-by-one) it seems to use a lot of memory, and your project locks up after a few and stops responding. It corrects itself in the end.
  5. The link style definitions are not flexible enough. I'd like to be able to develop a link style to use on a dark background and one to use on a light background. I'd like full control over this in the Style definitions.

How does everybody else feel about this? I'd love to see a use count next to styles (as per media/assets).

  • My team and I have run into the same frustrations. I completely agree that these are must-have items for developing courses efficiently in Storyline. The text hyperlink is also a WCAG concern.

  • Totally agree. It's very time-consuming to clear text styles that are not used, and you get no information or option about text styles when importing a slide from another project. It should be easy enough to add a dialog option "Would you like to import X number of styles as well? Yes/No" when importing a slide, as it would resolve a lot of the trouble we're getting with a lot of unused styles cluttering our projects.
