Issue with videos in Storyline

Hi all,

I have been fighting with a video file all afternoon and hoping someone can help.  I have a fairly simple storyline slide that contains 2 screencast videos.  One video starts at the beginning, the second video starts when the first one ends - about 90 seconds in.  When I have video #2 on a slide by itself and preview it, no problems.  I can put it on the slide with video #1 and hide video #1 and play video #2 - no problems.  As soon as I move video #2's start time to 90 seconds, it seems to get corrupted and the video just sits there on a frame that's somewhere in the middle and does nothing.  I've tried deleting and re-recording, saving/closing/reopening/redoing again, same result.  I have seen this issue happen before, over the last couple of years, at least.  I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm very frustrated and have wasted tons of time today messing around with this.  Any insight or fixes?

  • Hi Amie,

Sounds like a bug so you may need to open a support case.

Have you tried using layers to house your videos? It would be super helpful if you could share your file so I or other community members can take a look.

I am using layers for the videos as a workaround, but I would rather just get this fixed.  I'm surprised no one else has reported this issue - I've seen it several times over at least a couple of years.

I'm not sure how to upload a file...

Right - got that part.  But how do I "publish" a file that I can upload?

Also, I just had the same thing happen again on a completely new slide with a new video.  Video #2 seems to skip about 13 seconds when it starts playing on the timeline (when I use the play button on the timeline).  However, when I preview the slide, everything is fine.  The problem is that I can't add TTS and shapes, etc., to the slide because the timing is wonky when I'm previewing from the timeline itself.  This is a major problem that is causing me to waste a lot of time.  I'm happy to upload the file if you can guide me as to how to do that.  Thanks.

  • You don't need to publish to upload. You just attach the working file. It has an extension of .story. If you don't know where it is, open it in SL and click on Save As. That will take you to its original location. Then when you click add attachment, and Browse, go to that location.
