Hiding scenes in the menu

I have set up branches in an orientation/onboarding module where the learner must choose an employment designation to obtain relevant training/information. Because the bulk of the information is relevant to both employment designation choices, branching seemed the better option. However, what I want to achieve is to hide the unselected designation branch on the player menu (so the chosen designation can't see the menu of information topics), meaning I'll need to hide full scenes from the menu player, depending on the path that a user takes.

I was hoping to set a variable to hide a scene, when the user chose the other scenario path—Is there a way to set a variable to hide a complete scene from the player menu if the user selects the other scenario path? (hint)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • I am working on something similar, and I am experiencing the same issues. I need to hide portions of the menu depending on which scenario a user selects. I am hoping this is something that they will improve upon in the future.

I would also like, Articulate to indicate different items within the time based on color or something like that. For instance, all text could be blue on the timeline and all images could be green, ect. It just would be helpful when editing another person's project. I understand there are small icons that indicate what each item is, but I believe the colors would help.

  • Understanding what you are trying to do. I don't see anything in Storyline to do this. Is the menu really important for the learner to see? It's mainly a reference to most people. I would hide the whole menu. Or, make 2 different classes, one for each job. Just copy what you have and remove the slide to choose the different employment area.

    Good luck

There is no option in Storyline 360 to create a variable to hide a scene or slide from the menu.—I was hoping there was something in the works to remedy this issue after all these years.
I resorted to changing slides (I need to hide) to layers and adding variables to trigger the layers based on the chosen designation pathway. However, this does not help with "hiding" scenes. It is not an option to make two separate courses or hide the menu—the client wants what the client wants.
I added a disclaimer—a "patch/bandage" explanation for why the menu shows the "extra" items in the menu.
      Thank you for your reply.
