  • Hi Miguel!

Great question! Yes, Storyline 360 does support Variable Fonts. Any font that appears in Microsoft Word is available in Storyline 360 as well.

In regards to the output for learners, I wanted to share some related threads where other users discuss the pros and cons of using OpenType fonts:

Also, this article provides some helpful tips for working with fonts in Storyline 360:

Please let me know if you have any more questions!

No - only some (???) styles of the font are possible for PUBLISHING

e.g. Montserrat ExtraBold and MANY others don't work

      Authoring:

      Published to web

        Hi Jürgen,

Yes, it does appear that not all Variable Fonts are supported. Thanks for the additional information. The Albert Sans ExtraBold Variable Font for example, displays correctly while the one in your example does not.

For anyone who comes across this thread, I'd recommend opening a case with our support team here so we can take a closer looks at the fonts that are being installed if they are not displaying correctly!

  • Albert Sans don't work, if only the Variable Font is installed

    Result:

if the "Static" version of Albert Sans is installed

    everything is ok

this is the info file from google

This download contains Albert Sans as both variable fonts and static fonts.

Albert Sans is a variable font with this axis:
    wght

This means all the styles are contained in these files:
    AlbertSans-VariableFont_wght.ttf
    AlbertSans-Italic-VariableFont_wght.ttf

If your app fully supports variable fonts, you can now pick intermediate styles that aren’t available as static fonts.

Not all apps support variable fonts, and in those cases you can use the static font files for Albert Sans:
    static/AlbertSans-Thin.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-ExtraLight.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-Light.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-Regular.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-Medium.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-SemiBold.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-Bold.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-ExtraBold.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-Black.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-ThinItalic.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-ExtraLightItalic.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-LightItalic.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-Italic.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-MediumItalic.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-SemiBoldItalic.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-BoldItalic.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-ExtraBoldItalic.ttf
    static/AlbertSans-BlackItalic.ttf

Storyline belongs to the "Not all apps support variable fonts" and needs "Static Fonts"

    • Authoring works with "Variable Fonts"
    • Publish to Web Player not
  • summary: Storyline don't support for publish Variable Fonts*

the publish error depends on how and when the font will be installed

    • install only 'static' fonts -> published without problems
    • install only 'variable' fonts (typical normal/italic) -> Storyline sees the fonts with all 18 styles, but published only two styles ('regular'/'italic') (no thin, no light, bold, no black, ...)**
    • install 'static' + 'variable' -> on windows it is not possible to install both versions at the same time -> so the last installed version is the 'winner'

    * this is valid - as far as i have tested - for all Variable Fonts

** all characters are on the position as if the font had been exported correctly
