AI Assistant button inactive or you don't see it at all?

If features on the AI Assistant button aren't active, then your Articulate 360 Teams administrator has disabled Articulate AI on the Teams dashboard. If you don't see the AI Assistant button at all, the feature is unavailable for your account. Contact your Articulate 360 Teams administrator for assistance.

Step 1: Create and Edit Course-level Content

At the course level, you can use AI Assistant to generate a course outline, quiz lesson, and course summary lesson. Read on to learn how.

Please note, course-level options aren't available for microlearning.

Generate Course Outline

From your Rise 360 dashboard, click Create New and select Course > Start with AI. Follow the prompts to generate a course outline using either general knowledge or source documentation. During course outline generation, click Stop generating to return to the title selection step.

Note: If you click the X icon in the upper-right corner to cancel, you must create a new course to start the process again.

Use the prompts to tweak your outline, making suggestions and edits. Once you're ready, click Insert Course Outline. AI Assistant then creates a title, description, and blank lessons based on your outline. The subtopics displayed in the draft are used as topic suggestions for the associated lesson during block generation. Check out these additional tips for mastering course outline generation.

Review your AI-generated course outline by clicking the View course outline button below the title on the course overview page. This opens the AI settings window to the Course outline tab. You can also click AI Assistant in the top right, select AI settings, and choose the Course Outline tab. Here, you can copy the course outline content with just a click. Currently, this view doesn’t reflect any changes you make to the lesson titles after the course outline is generated, but it does reflect course title updates.

Note: If you cancel out of the course outline generation process, you won't be able to restart without creating a new course.

Generate Quiz

Click AI Assistant and select Generate quiz to have AI Assistant create a quiz based on current lesson content. You can let AI Assistant create the quiz without any customization or you can specify things such as topics and difficulty level. When you're ready, click Generate quiz to insert the generated quiz lesson.

By default, AI Assistant generates a minimum of three quiz questions, up to a maximum of 25, for all content in your course. Generated quizzes can be edited and modified, just like any other quiz.

Check out additional tips on optimizing AI quiz generation.

Generate Course Summary

Select Generate course summary from the AI Assistant menu to generate a summary lesson based on the contents of your course. The lesson consists of a summary paragraph and a bulleted list of talking points based on the course's content, with a note curated from your content, and a thank you statement.

If your generated course summary doesn't include the content you expected, generate it again, asking it to focus on certain topics. Learn more about how to guide AI Assistant when generating summaries.

Step 2: Create and Edit Lesson-level Content

You can generate lesson-level content in multiple ways. Use the options in the AI Assistant menu, the buttons in the block shortcut bar, or the AI Blocks section in the block library. Note that some features are only available from the AI Assistant menu. Find out how to get started below.

Generate Block

Launch block generation by selecting Generate block from the AI Assistant menu, AI Blocks from the block shortcuts bar, or AI Blocks > Generate Block from the block library. Any of these options opens the Generate Block dialog on the right-hand side of the screen.

  1. If you've uploaded documents for source content, they're selected automatically. To modify, click the Source content button. Here, you can add lesson content as your source or deselect source documents. Click Save to continue. Source content types include:
    • This lesson: AI Assistant automatically selects all text-based blocks in the current lesson. Modify this by clicking Edit, selecting the blocks you'd like to include, and then clicking Done.
    • Documents: Select one or more items from the list of documents uploaded in AI Settings. You can also drag and drop a new source file or paste text into the field. Once selected, source documents remain selected for future generation sessions.
  2. Topics are suggested automatically based on your source documentation or AI Assistant-generated course outline. Select a topic to automatically jump to the next step.

You can also enter a topic manually, then click the continue icon or press the Enter key to move to the next step. If you didn't select a source, AI Assistant draws from its general knowledge on the topic.
  3. Once you select the block type, AI Assistant generates an outline or full draft of the content based on your initial prompt. In the prompt field, make suggestions to the content. When you're satisfied, either click Use this outline or proceed to the next step if a full draft has already been generated.
  4. Modify the full draft by adding details and directing AI Assistant. You can say things like "add more detail" or "include additional steps." Depending on the block type, AI Assistant will suggest editing options below the drafted content. Learn more about productively prompting AI Assistant.
  5. When you're happy with the AI Assistant draft, click Insert block

Note: Click the X at the top of the AI Assistant panel to end the session without generating the block. You can also click Stop Generating while AI Assistant is working to halt the current generation task and provide additional instructions.

Edit Block

To generate additional content in an existing block or edit existing content, select Edit block from the AI Assistant menu. Choose the block you want to edit from the block reference screen that displays and click Done to continue.

The Edit Block screen displays with the block you selected as the source. If the block was AI-generated using source content, it will use the same source.

Enter what you'd like to accomplish in the text field. For instance, you can ask AI Assistant to add additional information, combine paragraphs, add steps, and more. When you're finished making changes, you can either Replace the block entirely or insert your edited block below the selected block.

Generate Image

Launch image generation by selecting Generate image from the AI Assistant menu, AI Image from the blocks shortcut bar, or AI Blocks > Generate Image from the block library. Enter a description for your image and select a style from the drop-down menu. Selecting an image style also exposes the prompt used to generate the style. You can copy it to use as the basis for your own custom style. AI Assistant selects the best aspect ratio for your block automatically: landscape (16:9), square (1:1), or portrait (9:16).

Click Generate Image when you’re ready, and then select one of the four options generated to immediately insert it into your course. Don't like any of them? Click Generate Again for four new options based on the current generation parameters.

You can also select a new art style or modify your prompt before generating new images. Use the Custom image style to specify parameters such as a specific art style, color palette, or even just items you'd like every image to include.

See larger versions of the generated images by hovering over one and selecting the preview icon in the upper-right corner. Cycle through the four generated images, and click Insert image to insert the current one into your course. You can also download one or all images to your desktop.

Note: Inappropriate, offensive, and legally protected language can't be used to generate images. Prompts containing restricted language will be blocked or simply not generate content. Please see our content policy for additional information.

Generate Knowledge Check

Select Generate knowledge check to have AI Assistant automatically create a multiple choice or multi-select knowledge check block based on the content of your lesson. Revise as needed. When you're happy with the content, click Insert knowledge check to add the knowledge check to the bottom of the lesson.

Tip: Want a question type other than what was generated? You can easily convert to a different question type via the block's content menu.

Generate Lesson Summary

Use AI Assistant to summarize your lesson by selecting Generate lesson summary. AI Assistant generates the summary automatically without customization by default. If you'd like AI Assistant to focus on certain topics in the lesson, have a style you'd like it written in, or want to offer any other specifications, enter those directions in the summary customization field.

After you click Generate Summary, AI Assistant inserts a paragraph block with the summary at the end of the lesson. Note that this process may take some time depending on the length of the lesson.

Magic Text Import

Select Magic text import from the AI Assistant menu or AI Blocks > Magic Text Import from the block library to create a process, accordion, or tabs block from your source content. Just copy your formatted text from your source and paste it into the field. Click Generate Block and AI Assistant converts your text, word-for-word, into a new block, creating steps or block elements based on your headings. Check out our best practices for formatting source documentation.

Step 3: Create and Edit Block-level Content

AI Assistant offers additional generation options at the block level, including inline writing, editing, and block conversion, as well as another pathway for generating images. Keep reading to learn how to use block-level features.

Write and Edit Inline

Wherever you can enter formatted text—such as text and process blocks—you can use the write and edit inline feature. Simply select some text or place your cursor on an empty line, and then click the Edit or Write with AI icon that displays. (It looks like a trio of sparkles!)

Edit with AI focuses just on the text you've selected, while Write with AI generates new content from your prompt.

When you use AI Assistant to edit selected text, you can fix grammar, shorten or lengthen the selection, simplify or change the tone, rewrite for a specific audience, and more. You can also format the selection by having AI Assistant do things like turning your selection into a bulleted list or table, bolding key terms—even inserting emojis.

Selected text can be used to generate entirely new content as well, adding multiple paragraphs based on the selection or converting it into something entirely new.

The Write with AI process starts by AI Assistant asking what you'd like to write about. It then provides options to shape and refine the generated content, similar to those presented when editing existing text.

Edit with AI

Click the AI Block Tools icon in the editing toolbar and select Edit with AI to open the Edit Block dialogue. Unlike the lesson-level edit block prompt, this begins with your text already selected and processed, ready for you to make changes. When you're ready, select Insert or Replace to generate a new block or replace the existing block.

Instant Convert

Transform your block in a click by selecting an option from the Instant convert menu in AI Block tools. Just select the block type you'd like to transform your current block into, and AI Assistant takes care of the rest. The newly generated block is inserted below the current block.

Image Generation

Access AI Assistant image generation wherever there's an image edit dialogue. Select the Replace with AI option to launch the Generate Image screen.
