ALT Text: Screen Readers & Translation
Hi,
I'm developing an eLearn in Rise, and I have a question around ALT text, Flashcard Grids, and the user experience for the visual-impaired:
If I use a graphic on one side of a flashcard, and that graphic includes text, would adding that text as part of the ALT text description allow for a visually impaired user to have a comparable experience? For instance, I would like to have an image with a key terms in text overlayed on top. You would then click and the definition of that term would be revealed.
I feel like a graphic with text would add to the user experience, but I might want to avoid doing so if it doesn't allow visually-impaired users to interact in the same way.
Simlarly, if I were exporting the eLearn's text for translation, would all the ALT text be included? I realise that with translation I would need to amend any graphic or image with embedded text myself, but I just want to be sure that all the eLearn's text, including ALT text, is getting exported for translation, so that all translation work can be consolidated to one batch.
Any clarity on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Hi BrianGarvan-3ec , yes, adding ALT text to those images will ensure that people using a screen reader will have a text description of the image.
ALT text writing tip: When writing your ALT text, use the right kind of description. For example, if you had a button, that launched information, and the button was depicted by an icon which is a blue letter "i" in a blue circle, you would not describe that, you would simply add "Information" as the ALT text. Sorry if telling you how suck eggs.
Also, on the translation part, yes, I do believe all ALT text is included.
