Accessibility and Animations

Hi!

I was wondering if it is OK to use simple animations - i.e. showing elements not all at once but rather in a sequence - if we want the course to work with screen readers and be compliant with WCAG. I have a course that has to check all the boxes in terms of accessibility.

Many thanks in advance!

  • Hi Agata,

This is a great question. The best rule of thumb for animations from an accessibility standpoint is that you give learners a way to control, pause or stop them (as opposed to using something like a looping animated gif). I hope that helps!

  • Hi Elizabeth,

Thank you for your response! It does help! I was just worried that an animated sequence or effects somehow mess with screen readers. Good to know that they are allowed!
