Storyline: Countdown Quiz Game

Looking for a fun way to quiz learners? This Storyline 360* template is just the thing. Here’s how it works: Each of the five levels of this gamified quiz has a question bank with 20 questions that appear in random order. When the learner starts a level, the clock begins counting down: they have one minute to answer as many questions as possible. Every correct answer buys five more seconds to answer other questions. To move on to the next level, your learners must answer 10 out of 20 questions correctly. Ten correct answers will earn them one star, 15 will earn them two, and if they get all the answers right, they’ll get three stars. This system of stars will have your learners trying again and again to beat their own score!

Try it out for yourself.

HI Allison! Love this game, it's so engaging! I have a question about bringing in my own questions. Are we able to import an excel spreadsheet into the question banks? Or, do the questions need to be added one by one manually onto each question slide? I tried to import once already and it added the questions to the bottom of the existing question bank as opposed to replacing the data. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

      Hi Erica,
You COULD do that, but then you'd have to rebuild all the functionality that's pre-built here. It'd be easier to copy/paste your questions into the existing slides, though I know that's not ideal if you have a bunch of questions. In this case, I do think it'd take less time to do it that way.
  • Hi Allison - Thank you so much for a beautiful interaction. It's amazing. I've always had trouble with variables but you have seemed to have mastered them.

Note: I don't want to take away from Melissa's accomplishment, but educators should take into account this interaction's use with those who have learning differences such as dyslexia. A count-down timer is my daughter's worst nightmare when it comes to quizzes due to the pressure to read FAST (which she simply cannot do) and the distraction of an animated object within the field of view.

That's a very good point, Kely! Thanks for bringing that up. In that case, it may be a good idea to offer 2 versions: one with the countdown and one without.
  • Hi Allison

Any chance you finished that tutorial you once mentioned for the quiz game?
  • Thank you so much for the template. I am so excited to use it for a course. Question, I am now using Storyline 360 and upon import its spacing and locations are all off. The stars for example are in a very strange non linear path and the text is not sized appropriate for the screen. Did anyone else run into something like this?

      Hi Christian,
This was created in Storyline 360 so there shouldn't be a need to import it. You should just be able to open it up.
Did you download the fonts I used here (see links above)? If not, that might be where the issue is coming from.

You were right. I was opening a "new" and then importing the file. This was squeezing it to my preset format for new.
When I just opened the file it was perfect. Thank you. Newbie here. Am really loving this template. Thank you again!

Hello, thank you Allison for the exercise, can you send me a version where you remove the timer and the question number please ?
  • Great Quiz, Allison. Can this be recreated in Storyline 3? Where I work you are not allowed to have software that accesses the cloud. As a result, I have to use SL3.
